Peter is twelve. She believes that everything around should be in absolute order. If sandwiches - then one per hand, if goals - only an even number, if shoes are in the corridor - then lined up. But one day, this orderly life bursts ... the number pi! Infinite, uncontrollable and therefore unbearable, says Petra.
She does not yet know that the encounter with the "imperfection" of the world is only the first of an avalanche of happy, tragic and exciting events.

Most books about teenagers (and books in general) are about the same thing - love, friendship, school, parents, growing up-overcoming. But if the author manages to find new words for general situations and make the reader believe in the characters as in himself, the book turns out to be unique.

Petra is a girl with "magical thinking". She goes around the sewer manholes in an arc, always brushes her hair five times on the right and five on the left, scores only an even number of goals in football. The new resident of her small town - swimmer Thomas - will destroy
it is a balance, but perhaps out of chaos and debris a new world will emerge that will be better than the old one.

Petra talks about her life with Scandinavian restraint, almost detachment. The laconic style only emphasizes the storm of emotions she has inside. Petra's ideal "even" world is collapsing, but in the text itself, the balance between the visible and invisible parts of the iceberg is not disturbed - and therefore "Complicated Numbers" does not look like one of the teenage stories.
