Владимир Клавдиевич Арсеньев (1872—1930) — географ, писатель и путешественник, заполнивший белые пятна на карте Дальнего Востока. В основе сюжета «Дерсу Узала» — экспедиция 1907 года по Уссурийскому краю, организованная писателем совместно с его другом, нанайским охотником Дерсу Узала. Картины величественной таежной природы, опасные приключения, увлекательная жизнь малых народов с их бытом, легендами и обрядами — все это не оставит читателя равнодушным. В 1975 году режиссером Акирой Куросавой был снят одноименный фильм, завоевавший премию «Оскар».
