The protagonist of the fairy tale by the famous Norwegian poet, writer and composer Alf Preussen is a kid who learned to count to ten. He is eager to put his knowledge into practice, so during the walk he assigns serial numbers to everyone he meets along the way: “One is me, two is the Calf, three is the Cow. One two Three!" The characters counted by the Kid, due to their ignorance, are offended and want to punish the Kid for arbitrariness at all costs. The company of dissatisfied increases with each page of the book. They unanimously run after the Kid, intending to beat him (or reason with him), so that in the future it would be disrespectful to encroach on the personal freedom of citizens.
The goat quickly runs away from his pursuers, confident in his rightness and his right to count everyone that gets in his way. The crowd of animals running after them stops every time to explain to the newly encountered character how much he was offended, insulted and humiliated. In the end, the Kid runs up to the sailing boat, standing at the pier. Everyone rushes after him. The ship swayed, everyone panicked, it seems - another minute and everyone will go to the bottom. And then the captain announces that the boat is designed for ten people and someone must urgently count the passengers. So the finest hour of the kid has come! He counts everyone again. As soon as it turns out that there are exactly ten of them, the pitching magically stops and the ship stops sinking. Everyone feels sincere gratitude to the Kid. On the last page - the expected happy ending. The kid's talent finds a worthy use: he becomes a controller - he counts the passengers boarding the boat.
The illustrations of the brilliant artist Vladimir Suteev for the book are beyond praise!
