George Bernard Shaw is an outstanding British playwright, whose plays still do not leave the stage all over the world, winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1925 and the Oscar for the screenplay of the film Pygmalion (1938) based on his comedy of the same name, author 56 plays, the founder (along with Ibsen and Chekhov) of the intellectual theater of the 20th century, a paradoxicalist who loved to turn common truths inside out and connect the seemingly incompatible, a temperamental polemicist, wit and wit, who had an innate sense of humor. This collection includes Shaw's plays relating to different periods of his work and depicting different facets of the author's talent: from the early psychological drama "Candida" and the historical play "Caesar and Cleopatra" to the late comedy "Millionairess". Standing apart in Shaw's heritage are two famous plays, also presented in the publication: "Pygmalion" (1913) - the story of the London professor of phonetics Henry Higgins, who "created" a secular lady from a street flower girl Eliza Doolittle and, like the ancient Greek sculptor Pygmalion, fell in love with his creation , and The House Where Hearts Break (1913-1917) - "a Russian-style fantasy on English themes" and one of the playwright's most "Chekhovian" works, where the title image of the house-ship symbolizes the old world that has entered the new century and is standing on the verge of death.
