When little Kate and her parents decide to get a dog, they do not go to a kennel with purebred puppies, but to a shelter for homeless and abandoned animals that they read about in the newspaper. There they find the dog of their dreams - small, cute, restless Toby, who wags his tail tirelessly and runs in circles.
Mom, dad and Kate are happy to take Toby with them, but just before leaving they notice another dog - an old, gray-haired, wide as a suitcase Rosa, who also really needs a home. “We would love to take all these dogs, but how?” Mom sighs. And they leave, looking back at Rosa every now and then.
At home, everyone is enjoying socializing with Toby's new pet, but at night, neither mom, nor dad, nor Kate can sleep. They all think about Rose. And the next morning... The next morning, the whole family, forgetting about breakfast, again goes to the dog shelter - this time to pick up Rosa.
