Book Treasure of Petunia | Duvoisin Roger

The book "The Treasure of Petunia" includes two tales about the goose Petunia: "Petunia, I love you!" and Petunia's Treasure. They were designed and painted by Swiss-born American artist Roger Duvoisin in 1965-1975. During his 48-year career as an author and illustrator, he created 42 picture books and illustrated more than 140 children's books. More than one generation of readers around the world has grown up on stories about Petunia. Now Petunia comes to Russian children.
"Petunia, I love you!" Raccoon Swallow has long laid eyes on the fat and appetizing Petunia. He decided to lure her out of the farm, take her into the woods, and eat her there. Trusting and curious, Petunia gladly agreed to take the raccoon for a walk and visit his old aunt. All the way the raccoon arranged various traps for Petunia and fell into them himself. Who got him out of there? Of course, Petunia! Petunia's kindness and her willingness to help conquered the raccoon: he stopped looking at her as food, and was imbued with completely different feelings for her. Petunia's Treasure. Petunia loved to swim in the river under a high cliff. Once, diving deeper, she found herself in an underwater cave. And there I saw a huge chest with shiny hinges. "Pirate Treasures!" she decided, and immediately rang about her find throughout the farm. The unexpected wealth that fell on Petunia changed the life of the barnyard. Petunia imagined herself an important person, and the inhabitants of the farm also wanted to get something from her bounty. Petunia lost her peace: in her nightmares she dreamed that malicious frogs were stealing her treasures. And during the day it was besieged by former friends who turned into sycophants and beggars. Petunia's treasure became a bone of contention and led to a real battle in the barnyard. It is not known how all this would have ended if the frog had not opened Petunia's eyes to the origin of the chest.
Classic foreign stories in pictures are longer than modern picture books - they have more events, characters, plot twists. From the fairy tale "Petunia, I love you!" you can make a real road movie. Heroes are always on the road, the raccoon constantly gets into trouble, and Petunia invariably comes out dry from the water. There is even a chase! All this will immediately capture the attention of the child and will not let go until the end of the story. In the fairy tale “The Treasure of Petunia”, all the inhabitants of the farm have such expressive characters that an adult can give each character his own voice and not just read a book to a child, but play it by roles. And then talk about why the most important treasure in the world is friendship.
