Life of one ship | Innocenti Roberto

$20.40 $24.00
This is a book about a captain and his ship called the Clementine. The sailor tells the story of his ship from the early 1930s, when it was built at the shipyard, until its sinking. Stepping on board the Clementine as a boy, he spent almost his entire life on this freighter, going from cabin boy to captain. With "Clementine" he was able to see the whole world: Havana and Valencia, Panama and New York, Lisbon and Liverpool. "Clementine" traveled with civilian cargo to the most exotic countries, during the war, through the waters of the Arctic, carried ammunition and equipment for the Red Army, and at the end of her long working life she found peace on the seabed. The captain stood at the helm of his "Clementine" until her death. Together they make the journey of a lifetime.
The ship and its history come to life in Roberto Innocenti's amazing, detailed illustrations that show how the world changed from the 1930s to the 1980s. Together with sailors, we witness successive historical events: the Spanish Civil War, World War II, the strikes of the 1980s in Poland, and also admire the diversity of landscapes in different parts of the world: Polynesia and India, America and Europe, a volcanic eruption, arctic ice, pictures of peaceful life and sea battles.
The history of the ship's life is supplemented by a map of civilian and military routes of the Clementine, as well as diagrams of the internal structure of the ship from bow to stern and from masts to hold. The Clementine itself is a fictitious ship, but her fate follows the history of many cargo ships of that time.
Roberto Innocenti is an artist who became famous all over the world thanks to the books "The Old House", "The Adventures of Pinocchio", "White Rose" and others. In 2008, he was awarded the Hans Christian Andersen Prize for his contribution to the development of children's literature.

For preschool and primary school age.
