Kwak is the famous character in a series of picture books created by Dutch artist Max Veltheis (1923-2005), winner of the International Hans Christian Andersen Prize.
Stories about a little frog in funny striped pants have been published around the world in more than 40 languages for 25 years now, are included in the compulsory reading program in many countries and are rightfully recognized as masterpieces of children's literature. In them, the author raises the topic of complex human experiences - such as the loss of faith in oneself, despair and hopelessness, the torments of unrequited love - and he perfectly manages to talk about such important things in the language of a three-year-old child.
The collection "Frog Kwak" includes three stories: "It's good to be a Kwak", "Kwak in winter", "Kwak fell in love". Previously, they all came out as separate paperback editions.
"It's good to be Kwak." Kwak is very happy that he was born a green frog. He prides himself on being the best swimmer and jumper. Kwak is sure that he is very lucky in life. But one day an understanding of his own imperfection comes to him: he cannot fly like a Duck; can't bake pies like Piglet, can't craft like Rat and can't read like Hare. Luckily, the friends manage to convince Kwak that they love him just the way he is.
Kwak in winter". In Kwak's life, many things happen for the first time. For example, winter comes for the first time. The frog learns that the big world, so familiar and reliable, can suddenly change and become hostile. Light bewilderment is gradually replaced by complete despair, and it is not known how it would all end , if friends had not come to the aid of Kwak.
"Kwak fell in love." Kwak the Frog doesn't know what's wrong with him. Is he sad or happy? It throws him into the heat, then into the cold, and inside something quickly, quickly knocks: knock-knock-knock-knock! An explanation for such a strange state of the frog is found by the Hare, and it turns out that Kwak ... fell in love!
Thanks to the enlarged font, the book is suitable for older preschool children who are taking their first steps in independent reading.
