Tender is the night (Fitzgerald F.-S.)

$34.00 $40.00
This is a novel about a man and women, and therefore definitely about love. And it is also about illusions and hopes, despair and self-deception, ideals and disappointment... Actually, just about life with all its forced compromises and nuances of human experiences and relationships. Fitzgerald wrote about himself and, of course, about a generation that would one day be called "lost." About people who, after the First World War, no longer felt that life rested on solid foundations, and who only had to "adjust to the rhythm of the century, live in harmony with this rhythm." And for Fitzgerald, this rhythm was definitely jazz - dynamic, active, at the same time a little chaotic and broken. It was Fitzgerald who would call the 1920s the Jazz Age.

In Natalia Akimova's drawings there is that same jazz rhythm, and symbolism, and a special cinematography - all the more surprising since the color illustrations seem to be frames of a film from the era of silent cinema. Such a work, consonant with the text of Fitzgerald, could not go unnoticed: for illustrations to the novel, the artist was awarded a diploma from the XIV International Competition "The Image of the Book".
